So James and Ben returned this morning with all their gear and were soon hard at work taking out the dead wood and cutting the tree to a reduced height and width.  Their work is so skilful as they moved through the high branches safely roped to a high pivot spot, cutting the unwanted timber and dropping it exactly where it was intended. I should now have firewood for the next year or two, once the wood has dried out. The cows will be let back into this field and they can eat up some of the leaves and small twiggy pieces.  The dead stuff and debris will be  burnt up on my bonfire pile. Photos show the tree before, during and after the work and a pallet of some of the logs. Lastly a poor photo of the owl box now installed on the NNW side of the tree with maximum shade from the surviving foliage.

Had a job done this morning which had been needing to be sorted for a couple of years.  The big, but suffering, hybrid poplar tree had been dying back for a number of years.  This spring it came into leaf very late and I began to wonder if it had actually died.  However when it did leaf out I decided it definitely needed topping and the dead wood taking out.  I called up Apex Tree Specialists from Bedford who I had known for many years.  James came last week and we discussed the best course of action which was to reduce the breadth and height leaving the healthy wood so hopefully the tree can recover a bit.

Hybrid poplars are not a long lived tree but this particular tree was the highest tree in the area and always attracts a lot of birds, especially in the autumn when sometimes it is covered in birds gathering together pre-migration.  Kestrels successfully bred for two years in an owl box we had put up, but this sadly rotted and fell down.  A new one had been constructed so this was installed by James and hopefully next year will attract another pair of kestrels - or even barn owls which is what the box was designed for!

We engaged Apex to sort out our boundary trees for Dunstable Community Halls. Many years of non management had left them in a very overgrown state. Apex did a great job for us and left the cleared space very clean and tidy.

A job really well done, at a very competitive price!

Amazing end to end service and a fabulous job done - communication was excellent, everything cleared up beautifully and the best management of the Yew hedge that I’ve seen to date. I would have no hesitation in recommending Apex.

Great job by James tackling our unruly wisteria and expertly securing it. It was a tricky job due to difficult access, but he’s managed to reduce it whilst preserving its natural form. It looks so much tidier and we have daylight again inside! Many thanks.

We might be a little biased as he's our lovely neighbour, but we booked James and his team to trim off 2/3 of our false acacia that had got too big and was housing too many pigeons who were pooping on our decking.

The team were very friendly and smiley and were like a well oiled machine, got the job done and to our surprise left the garden tidier than they found it. (I'd been cutting lots of wood in the garden the week before and all my sawdust magically disappeared in their cleanup!)

Would 100% recommend. Thanks guys :)
